DID YOU KNOW ......

.... that here in Hallandale Beach, FL we have more than just beautiful beach bodies to a make our heads turn? We have something else to admire besides the beautiful ocean, beach, booming retail and residential constructions. And it can be controversial too. So, what is it?

Well, I am talking about the third-tallest statue in the United States after the Birth of the New World in Puerto Rico and the Statue of Liberty in New York. It is also the world’s largest and tallest equine and European dragon statue.

PEGASUS AND DRAGON is a 100 feet (30m) tall statue of a Pegasus defeating a dragon in the Gulfstream Park. The whole statue complex is 200 feet in length and 115 feet in width. Pegasus is made of 330 tons of steel and 132 tons of bronze. The dragon is made of 110 tons of steel and 132 tons of bronze.

As anything in that size and cost ($30 mil) this statue has its lovers and haters. For sure it can represent the extravaganza style south Florida has and can be known around the world for.

For 88-year-old Austrian born Canadian businessman and billionaire Stronach this statue is his brainchild. Stronach’s vision behind the Pegasus is to “celebrate the contributions that horses have made to human civilization.” Frank Stronach is known around the world for his outsized projects, including financing buildings of communities after hurricane Katrina. His group owns racetracks and equine facilities around the world including the Hallandale Beach’s Gulfstream.

For sure like it or not this Pegasus and Dragon are hard to miss and are an eye-catching attraction Hallandale Beach has to offer. I feel it makes our city even more special.

The moment you’ll see it with your own eyes, you’ll think wow “this is massive and impressive”, you will definitely need to turn your head, at least I did.

Ready to come and take some beautiful photos, selfies or both?
